News: SEGA creates a new console! But not to the players to press the "big three»: Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii both have fought for leadership in the market, and will continue to fight. But SEGA decided to go their own way.

Impressions:

I want to have faith in ZEXCS, even with a kind of abhorrent premise like "middle school girls start an underwear club." Hell, the last comedy they made was about a bunch of otaku gods and demons with a giant flaming Hard Gay angel and a possibly bicurious robot. No part of that should have been as good as it ended up being.

Unfortunately, this falls far shy of that. I will say that it did have a lot more drama to it than I expected though. It’s clear that they’re trying to tell a bit of a coming-of-age story between the three main girls, one bullied for her underwear fetish and the assumption that she’s doing it to attract guys, and the other two because of how their bodies are developing, over and underdeveloping for each. There are definitely a lot of comparisons that could be made to a show like Tsubomi, but honestly, a lot of that feels lost under the mountainous deluge of T&A. Kind of like how most of the more supposedly mature themes of Kodomo no Jikan are lost beneath all the pedophilia, only… without a pedophile. So far.

Production was pretty strong for the most part, but nothing that spectacular. Music was forgettable, and the low quality webcast certainly didn’t help there. Nothing about the story or characters went in any creative directions, but it was all executed well enough. After everything last season has put me through, I feel the need to compliment what is simply competent direction. Some of the jokes were good, but overall it was pretty predictable so the vast majority of the episode fell pretty flat for me, which just left the drama. Again, they handled it decently enough, but it’s hard to match that against the endless jiggling and shots of girls’ crotches, even if it is making an effort.

Overally, it wasn’t a particularly positive impression for me, so I highly doubt I’ll keep up with this one. I may check out at least the start of the next episode (even though I have no idea when it airs) just because I like to give ZEXCS a fighting chance, but it’ll have to be a hell of a lot funnier for me to care. I’m curious if this kind of thing will make it past the network censors. Terrifying.

Anime Expo 2009 rounds up today down in Los Angeles which means it’s time for a quick news round-up. Industry presence seems considerably less this year, an observation that I make as someone who wasn’t able to attend mind you, and the announcement list is considerably smaller than the whopping 61 manga licenses that Anime Expo 2008 had for us. Goes to show how the industry’s changed over the past year I suppose, right? Anime Expo did continue its reputation as the largest anime convention in North America however with an attendence of over 44,000.

Summer Wars (サマーウォーズ, Samā Wōzu?) is a 2009 animated science fiction film. The film focuses on a timid eleventh-grade math genius who has been falsely implicated in the hacking of a virtual world and, with the aid of a classmate's extensive family, must prevent the real and computer-simulated worlds from colliding. It was produced by the Japanese animation studio Madhouse and directed by Mamoru Hosoda.

The project was first announced without a title at the 2008 Tokyo International Anime Fair, and the first trailer of the film was released in April 2009. Audience interest was fueled primarily through word of mouth and Internet publicity.[3] Two manga adaptations of the film were published ahead of the film's release in Japan and South Korea. It was nominated for the 2009 Golden Leopard award at the Locarno International Film Festival.

This and the second "Evangelion" were the two films I was looking forward to this summer, but I was preoccupied with research and watched "Summer Wars" a week after it opened. Even so, the theater in Shinjuku was sold out when I tried Monday night, and again on Tuesday afternoon, a testament to the quality and wide appeal of this work. It is from Hosoda Mamoru, the director of "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time," which won many awards, including Japan Academy Prize for Animation of the Year 2006. As with that film and "Eva," Sadamoto Yoshiyuki did the character designs for "Summer Wars."

The story is about Kenji, a high school student who works part time maintaining a virtual online world called Oz. Basically the entire world is using Oz to function from e-mail and GPS to banking and weapons defense systems. Kenji is crushing on a girl, Natsuki, who invites him to work part time in the countryside over the summer. The job, Kenji finds, is to act like Natsuki's fiancé to please the family matriarch, who will be turning 90. Just as Kenji is starting to get into it, he solves a strange mathematical puzzle that arrives to his cell phone. This turns to be the security code for Oz, and once it is cracked a mega A.I. virus called Love Machine starts unleashing hell on Oz, enslaving other avatars and using the online infrastructure to throw the real world into utter chaos. Natsuki's grandmother dies, but the family comes together to reconcile and defeat the virus. Natsuki uses her avatar to gamble at hanafuda cards and win accounts back from the now monstrous Love Machine, which weakens him enough so that her cousin "King" Kazuma can lay the smack down. Kenji cracks the security code and redirects a missile headed for the house - with the help of Wabisuke, the black sheep of the family who went to America and programmed Love Machine to prove he wasn't a screw up. Admittedly, it is a bit of a stretch that all these talented folks are under the same roof, but you just have to suspend disbelief.

As mentioned, the film is visually very satisfying. It opens on a black screen with layered voices in Japanese and English explaining Oz, then a cell phone appears and the audience is granted access to the virtual land over the rainbow. It looks like a Murakami Takashi painting, specifically from early 2000s when he collaborated with Louis Vuitton and had an installation at Roppongi Hills. The world is white with colorful accents, and is dominated by a giant tower-like creature in the middle and inhabited by cutesy avatars. But what reminded me most of Murakami was the flatness, or slick, polished surfaces of this world. In great contrast is the physical setting, Ueda-shi, Nagano Prefecture. Hosoda's wife is from the area, and the director apparently was quite taken with the image of traditional Japan. It has a warm and lived in feel to it, aided by a scrupulous attention to detail. As Kenji and Natsuki make their way to the countryside (first a bullet train, then local train and local bus) there is a subtle transformation of their surroundings, captured in shocking realism. The views of Natsuki's family estate, a grand old Japanese home, are amazing. Then there is the scenery. Even now some of the images are fresh in my mind: white clouds moving across a blue sky, flowers blooming in the night, the sun rising.

Discription:

We begin with a not-so-limited number of boys and girls in middle and high school, the oh-so-typical setting for multiple "first loves" to bloom. And bloom they did, as each episode focuses on one or two girls with their first experiences at this simple, yet confusing feeling called love. If you have any kind of fetish in your 2D girl fandom, they probably have it in this show. We have a cute girl who's dangerously strong despite the looks. The optimal cool beauty who's quite a newbie in the love department. The worst (best?) onii-chan complex in any anime ever. The big-bust swimming girl who actually doesn't like being well-endowed. The cool beauty #2 tennis superstar. The all-systems-completely-normal girl that had the best episode in the anime. And finally, my personal favorite, the ultimate rendition of tsundere. These seven girls are paired with no less than nine guys – the kind yankee, the normal guy, the semi-normal guy, the ero-kappa, the siscon, the anti-siscon, the tennis guy, the swimming guy, and the alpha painter guy. Along with side characters, this provides probably a very confusing relationship chart considering it's just a 12-episode anime. After a few episodes though, you would eventually get a hold of these characters, simply because they are… er… simple.

The attitudes of each character are so strongly-typed that they seem to give every single cliche in the harem book a run for its money. The girls, they are hot. The guys, most of them are losers in their own domains. How does Hatsukoi Limited succeed then, being the complete encyclopedia of what is right and wrong about harem anime? My answer may be as confusing as "first love" itself! The anime merely "clicked" on me. I read the manga beforehand and I really didn't think it were anything special. But then the anime came and had this awesome presentation, all elements laid in perfect symphony with each other. The animation, the music, the story pace, all very entertaining. Everytime I watch a single episode, it feels like an event. For many weeks, it had been my Sunday show, getting and watching the raws first before watching the same episode AGAIN with the subs. I would make worthless Twitter posts about how awesome the episode is even if I can't describe it well within the character limit. In this time when I treat most anime as an "I can always watch an episode later" afterthought, Hatsukoi Limited is the single anime which I just HAVE to watch as immediate as possible. This is indeed, love at first sight.

In the sinister nights in England, the undead walk on the street. Mankind created a chip to turn people into vampire's, under the name FREAK. An organization, followed by the queen of England is here to destroy the deadly Vampires and the FREAK-chips. An old vampire called Alucard serves his human master, Integral Hellsing to destroy these new vampires.

One night, a priest was turned into a FREAK-vampire and turned all civilians of the town into Ghouls. The Police Special Forces, D11 group arrived near the town. They all got attacked by the Ghouls and were turned into one of them. An young agent, Celes Victoria, who was called 'Kittin' by the men of her group, was running for her life, trying to escape from the FREAKs. She encounters Alucard, who tells her it's a perfect night to spoil blood. She shoots at him while he keeps grinning with a sinister kind of smile. Victoria turns around and runs again for her life.

She finds herself at a cementary with a church in the center. As she walks in to rest, she finds the Priest, who was the cause of this flood of Ghouls in the village. Under hypnosis, the priest drags her to himself for a small snack. But just before he wants to bite her, Alucard walks in. The whole D11 squad who turned into Ghouls appear from behind the benches, shooting at Alucard. As his body, full with holes, falls on the ground, Victoria screams for her life, snapping out of the hypnosis. But this isn't the end yet. REAL vampires can regenerate! As Alucard appeared again, he asked Victoria a question while aiming his gun at her chest. Does she want to die, or turn into a vampire like himself? She answers that she wants to be a vampire. Alucard pulled the trigger, shooting through Victoria's lungs to slay the evil priest. Granting her wish, Alucard made her a vampire.

Yes, it's experimental.. I think. It's about a crazy girl who works for the top secret organisation Across. Last name Excel, given name Excel, In other words, she's Excel! A blond haired girl with soft-green eye's who has a very deep crush on her master Ilpalazzo, the leader of Across who tries to ignore her (I can imagine why). All episodes doesn't really make sense. In the first episodes when she just gets introduced, she dies. Few minutes later, she dies again. Actually, she dies alot in the first episode.

She even killed the author Koshi Rikdo. "Rikdo, Rikdo, the manga kid. Always skipping out on the job." Nevermind that, he sings that while Excel prepares to kill him. In the 2nd episode, space aliens called Puchu invade Earth. They also have a new member for Across on board, Princess Hyatt. She can barely stand up for a while till she gets dizzy, falls on the floor and begins to bleed out of her mouth. She's the favorite of Ilpalazzo and he fantasizes about her while he plays the Love-Love Excel Sim-date game on a kind of Gameboy. Like the labour worker Pedro, who has a son named Sandora and a sexy wife back home. He get's alot of problems with that.. Just watch the series. He even turns in a kind of Super Saiyan at one point!

Half-way the series, they're in need of a new charcter. So they beg Rikdo to approve the use of the Ropponmatsu-characters. The adult version was built a thousend of times, just to see her blow up. One of the neighbours of Excel, Iwata, has a huge crush on Ropponmatsu, but has an emotional breakdown when she gets replaced with Ropponmatsu 2nd, the child version.. In the episode 'Find Love Again', Child Ropponmatsu violently rapes Excel (But the people of J.C. staff were nice enough to only show their psycho shadows on the wall, so child-friendly).
This is a must see for people who want to see an anime with an overdosis humor. I really laughed my ass off while watching this. Oh yeah, before I forget, in every episode there is the same guy. His name is Nabeshin. He's always on the run for people. He even learns Excel bowling in an episode, while he doesnt. On the toilet, with his pants down. Excel actually wins only with using his bowlingball and her belief that Nabeshin is dead. X_x Nabeshin is the coolest guy in the whole series (Atleast, thats my opinion). He grabs weapons out of his afro and even has a fighting style he teaches to Pedro. The 'Way of the Afro'. His strongest attack is the Nabehameha!
Er ye, anyways.. You'll actually have to see it for yourself to understand anything of it.

Yes, there are still great animes out there! One of them is the anime Elfen Lied. I suggest 16+ for this, as in first look you might yell "omfg liek hentai pl0z!!". Well, it isn't hentai. >.> So hut up about that.

In a research facility on a little island in the sea, a diclonius called Lucy is guarded by several guards who fear her. She's bound and wears a metal mask on her head, so she can't clearly look around. Using her vectors (telekenetic hands), she kills the guards around her, grabs the keys and escapes. As the party starts, she kills every guard in sight by using her vectors, guns or other objects lieing around the floor. Walking around naked, killing all the guards she can kill and giving the walls a new redish color, she meets Director Kurama, together with another army of guards. As one of the clumbsy receptionists slip out and fall infront of her, Lucy rips her head off and uses her body as a shield to protect herself. After the newly added blood-fountain, Kurama orders the guards to shoot her. After a short while, the guards stop shooting because they ran out of ammo. She slowly walks past the group, killing them one by one and slowly walks past Kurama, walking outside the facility to find her freedom. Unlucky for her, a sniper shoots her against the head and she falls in the sea.

A young collage student, Kouta, walks along the road meeting his cousin Yuka. They have a little chat because they didn't saw eachother in eight years. Yuka suggests to take a look at the beach, so they did. After re-capturing memories from the shells on the beach, which Kouta's dead sister liked to collect, they see a naked girl with horns infront of them, bleeding. After seeing the two, she tries to run away, but slips and falls with her head in the sand. Yuka feels sorry for her and forces Kouta to give his shirt to her. The three walk back to Kouta's new house, the Maple Inn, and decided to call this girl 'Nyu' (Or 'Nyuu', varies in translations), because she kept saying Nyu all the time.

The facility sends out a soldier called Bando (Who likes to kill) after Lucy. Shortly after arriving at the beach, his group starts the investigation. In the meantime, Kouta found a shell and gets a sad face. Nyu thinks the shell is making him sad, so she breaks it. That wasn't the smartest thing to do.. Kouta stands up and starts to yell at Nyu. In tears, she runs away, to the beach. She finds Bando and another soldier and tries to run away. She slips again and falls behind some logs. Nyu knocks out and Lucy appears, killing the soldier who was with Bando. Now the fun starts, Bando vs. Lucy. Using her vectors, she throws huge things at him, while Bando only has his rifles. In the end, Lucy escapes and Bando is left without any limbs.

Mayu, a homeless girl who got abused by her father, finds Bando and calls the hospital. She meets the group and they ask if she wants to live with them, knowing about her current state as homeless.

The facility tries to re-capture Lucy, again, so they send out diclonius number 7, Nana. She was tortured for years as a test-subject. She isn't able to give birth to children either, unlike Lucy. Director Kurama acted like a father to her, and asks Nana if she wants to do him a favour: To trace Lucy and bring her back.

So she sets off in a helicopter to our quiet little town, in search of Lucy. They meet eachother and start fighting. Nana doesn't like to kill people, so she just tries to capture her. Unlucky for her, Mayu walks into the battle and gets knocked out of the field within a few seconds. Nana gets distracted and results in missing her limbs. She gets ordered to be killed, but Kurama decides to give her artifical limbs like Bando got after his battle with Lucy. He sends her to the mainland with alot of money and orders her to run away as far as she can. And live a happy life.

Kouta's past keeps showing up, how he met Lucy as kids and how his sister and father got killed by her. The final act of the facility begins. They send out their last diclonius, the real daughter of Director Kurama. So the final battle begins between the three diclonius. Who will win?

Based on the Dating Sim A I R, Key proudly made it into the tv series AIR. Like most of their series, it's based on a theme. AIR is based on the summer theme.

Kunisaki Yukito is on a quest to find a girl with wings. His mother told him about the legend, so he could continue her quest to save her. He ends up in a small town near the sea where he holds puppet shows for money, with the doll he got from his mother. He meets a girl called Kamio Misuzu, who tries to befriend him from the moment she saw Yukito.

Yukito rudely tries to ignore her kindness, but still ends up staying at her house. Misuzu is eager to play with Yukito. Like throwing water at eachother in the sea, running along the beach, playing cards and waving bye-bye when they go home. Misuzu has an obsession with dinosaurs since she was little. Thus, she keeps saying the praise 'Gao!', the sound which dinosaurs made.

As Yukito tries to earn money in this strange little town, his doll gets kidnapped by a dog called Potato. He doesn't bark, but yells 'Piko, Pi, Pikori!' (Kinda sounds like a Pokémon, huh?). Potato leads him to a girl who is on the same school as Misuzu, called Kirishima Kano. She has a yellow ribbon tied to her right-arm. Her sister told her that she can use magic when she takes it off when she's grown up.

Another weird girl Yukito meets is Tohno Minagi. She's in the same class as Misuzu and is the creater of the astronomy club. She's tall and shows no real emotion. But when you get to know her, you'll see she's a caring and loveable person. She has some troubles in her family, so she usally ends up playing with Michiru, who has the same name as Tohno's younger sister who died at birth.

The past of these girls are revealed through the storyline, which will also bring us back 1000 years in time, when Winged-beings existed and were a threat to mankind. Yukito's Ancestor, Ryuuya, had to protect Kanna, a female winged being. Eventually they fell in love, but Kanna died with a curse by the monks. Ryuuya got also cursed, because he was the one who Kanna loved. He made a child with his companion, Uraha, and tought their child how to use magic with the doll and the history of Kanna. Eventually, Ryuuya died by the curse.

As the story goes on, Misuzu talks about the dreams she got after she met Yukito. They were about a girl with wings, who had sad dreams. They start to turn worse, and its rumoured that she will loose her memory and finally die after her last dream. Yukito tries to prevent this with the history and the doll obtained from his mother.

AIR is a relaxing story in the beginning, but gets sadder nearing the end. In the jump back in time, there are rather violent scenes with murder and blood, so some people will still get their needs. =/
It's an unusual story and it doesn't really look like it's made from a Dating Sim. In general, AIR is a great anime and a must-watch!

But in the end of the game when Tidus reunites with Jecht before killing him, he shows that he secretly loves him.

Weapons/Armor

In this game, you can equip one weapon and one armor, and you also can change weapons on the fly during the battle, but it costs one turn. The names of the weapons/armor don’t play much of a role, but only the specific abilities it has. For example, if a weapon has something that has to do with ice, it’ll definitely have an ice attack. If an armor has something that has to do with a certain status, it’ll have protection against it. So the relative names of the weapons/armor relate to the key abilities it pertains. You can customize weapons/armor when you have Rikku in your party. Customizing them involves using certain items to get that ability added (assuming you have enough free slots). Here is the list of abilities you can add to the weapons/armor.

Overdrives

Overdrives are the limit breaks/trances of FF X. But what’s different, is that you can set how you want the overdrive meter to charge. You can learn different ways by completing tasks such as fighting a certain amount of battles, or by healing many times. Here are the overdrive modes:

Stoic – Charges when betrothed by the foe.
Warrior – Charges when a character attacks an enemy.
Healer – Charges when a character heals.
Comrade – Charges when a party member is attacked.
Slayer – Charges when a character defeats an enemy.
Victor – Charges when a battle is complete.
Tactician – Charges when a status effect is cast on the enemy.
Hero – Charges when facing an enemy with lots of HP.
Ally – Charges when a party member has its turn.
Daredevil – Charges when a character is in critical health (yellow text).
Solo – Charges when a character is fighting alone.
Coward – Charges when a character escapes from battle.
Dancer – Charges when an enemy misses an attack on a character.
Rook – Charges when a character reflects or nullifies a magic attack from the enemy.
Sufferer – Charges when a character has a status ailment.

Overdrive – Swordplay

A small bar moves left to right on the screen and you must hit X at the middle around the grey area to get more damage. It also depends on time too.

You gain the overdrives by activating the overdrive meter a certain amount of times.

Spiral Cut – Tidus does some flips and turns and then slashes one enemy for big damage.
Slice & Dice – Attacks all enemies with six attacks from his sword (the aim is random).
Energy Rain – Attacks all enemies.
Blitz Ace – Attacks all enemies eight times, then does a Jecht Shot on one enemy.
